Huaihe River basin spans five provinces: Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong. Nowadays, the Huaihe River, which suffered frequent floods and droughts in the past, nourishes one-ninth of the country’s population, one-tenth of its cultivated land and contributes one-sixth of its grain output. Funan, Anhui Province, located on the Huaihe River, is a major grain-producing county. In recent years, it has invested more than 10 billion yuan, completely changing the unfavorable production conditions that were prone to waterlogging and drought in the past. This year, the grain output of the county will exceed 900,000 tons.
